NGO’s in St. Eustatius and St. Maarten receive Nafl. 1.7 M in AMFO grants
Six NGO's in St. Maarten and St. Eustatius have received grants totalling Nafl. 1,713,788 from Antillean Co-financing Organization AMFO. With these grants, the foundations are enabled to execute several projects in the areas of poverty eradication, care & welfare and training & education. AMFO gets funds for projects with these themes from the Dutch government.
In St. Maarten, Belvedere Community Foundation received Nafl. 498,242 for its after-school programme, the Victorious Living Foundation received Nafl. 338,274 to execute its preventative mentorship programme for 100 youths, and Stichting Zorgverlening het Wit Gele Kruis received Nafl. 121,646 for the training of 20 nurses.
In addition, the Phlipsburg Jubilee Library Foundation received Nafl. 508,978 for its new Bookmobile, which, in addition to servicing the schools in the morning, will start visiting the districts as a mobile library in the afternoon.
The Diabetes Foundation St. Maarten was the recipient of a Nafl. 148,268 grant to purchase another bus for its widely-praised Diabetes Awareness and Testing programme.
In St. Eustatius, the Youth Care Foundation received Nafl. 98,380 for its High Scope Programme, an evidence-based quality-enhancement programme for preschools. This will be the first project in St. Eustatius to receive funding form the new AMFO. The contract was signed In St. Eustatius in the morning, prior to the signing ceremony in St. Maarten, that was held in the John Larmonie Centre in Philipsburg. Representatives of the NGO's and AMFO-director Stanley Betrian were present to sign the respective financing agreements.
All granted projects showed to be well considered and carefully planned. The AMFO Foundation is happy to be able to sponsor these well functioning NGO's.

Relocation AMFO office St. Maarten
Not only the AMFO office in Bonaire found another location this year, also the AMFO office in St. Maarten is relocated. After six years the location on Pondfill above Blue Point was exchanged for a unit in the Brooks Tower, ahead of town. Telephone and fax number remain the same.
Directors AMFO and USONA pay visit to Prime Minister

Recenlty, Reginaldo Doran, director of USONA and Reinoudt Karsdorp, director of AMFO, paid a visit to the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Antilles, mrs. Emily de Jongh Elhage.
Among other they discussed the future of USONA and AMFO after 2012, since the new countries Curacao and Sint Maarten will then have to take up more responsibility towards these funding agencies. In relation to this, also more cooperation between USONA and AMFO were discussed.
Another item during this meeting was the support of USONA and AMFO for the integral neighborhood approach currently underway in Curacao. Additionaly, also the opportunities of this approach for St. Maarten have been discussed.
