Children’s homes on Curaçao receive about 1 million from AMFO

Willemstad – Six children’s homes in Curaçao will end the year 2008 in a happy mood: on Monday afternoon, each of these received a considerable amount financed by Stichting Antilliaanse Mede Financierings Organisatie (AMFO). These amounts totaling almost one million come in addition to the regular amount of maximum of 9 million Euros that AMFO receives annually of its donor, for the purpose of financing NGO projects. Upon request of the Dutch parliament, the donor, which is the Dutch government, has granted half a million euros, especially designated for children’s homes on the islands of the Netherlands Antilles where there are children’s homes, namely Curaçao, Bonaire and St. Maarten.

After an extensive needs assessment, AMFO distributed the funds based on the total amount of children’s homes on the Netherlands Antilles and the number of children in these homes. Following the homes that received financing on Curaçao, together with their respective number of children and financed amounts:

These funds, mounting to almost 900 thousand, will directly impact the living circumstances of the children in the various homes. In these homes reside 150 children in total.

AMFO’s objective is to reduce poverty by supporting the NGO’s and their work. In this case the foundations responsible for the children’s homes will receive the provided funds. With this financial support AMFO has managed to reach one of its most important target groups, namely the youth. On St. Maarten the signing of the financing contracts will take place on Wednesday, December 3rd.
